in my art studio in Patmos

My friends were always welcomed to my workspaces, but this is the first year that I have invited the wider public to my studio in Patmos,  where I have been painting for a few months every year since 2000.  This is the location and environment which has greatly influenced my painting, even if the things I paint usually are not landscapes of Patmos. The colours and the light of the island have resulted in work completely different to the work I was doing in England, and later, in Athens. Not only the colours and the landscape, but also the sound of the wind and the sea, the immediacy and continuity of the exposure to the natural elements  surrounding the workspace, the absence of noise and of the visual distractions found in cities. Working in Patmos has had a cleansing effect, allowing me to simplify imagery, to become more introspective and at the same time more open.
